The Foundational Covenant: Strengthening Family
Strong, healthy families are the foundation of a strong, healthy community. With the release of this document, The Jamestown Project and its partners in The Covenant movement issue an explicit and urgent call to action to our brothers and sisters to build on the historic strengths of our community to revitalize the Black family. The Foundational Covenant argues that family is the common denominator of all of the Covenant principles, and asks us to work to nurture, love and care for ourselves, our children, our marriages, our families, and our entire community. The Foundational Covenant is structured in essentially the same way as the other chapters of The Covenant, and is intended for inclusion in future reprints of that book.
The Covenant Curriculum & Study Guide
The Curriculum Manual & Study Guide uses The Covenant with Black America and the original standard Covenant Curriculum reading list compiled by Professor Cornel West (Princeton University) and Eddie S. Glaude Jr. as foundational documents to create a study aid for community learning.
The Manual guides the reader through what may be unfamiliar terrain, putting the Curriculum's material in context, pointing out the major themes of the various works, and suggesting different approaches and how the materials relate to each other. The Manual also incorporates enrichment activities, projects and cooperative learning strategies to ensure that the rich substance of the Covenant Curriculum is real and accessible to everyone.
The Covenant into Action |
The inspirational spirit of The Covenant with Black America continues with The Covenant in Action, which will empower readers to take effective action to achieve The Covenant goals.
The information, tools, and ideas presented in The Covenant in Action will enable and inspire people to become agents of change in their respective communities and to become partners in a larger Covenant movement. The book is organized into three parts: (1) stories about the projects and actions that everyday people have undertaken over the past year that were inspired by The Covenant with Black America; (2) motivational essays from young Black activists who are on the ground impacting their environments; and (3) a toolkit outlining steps you can take to organize, connect, and act. The toolkit contains not only traditional action strategies, but includes innovative approaches to organizing and community building that will result in stronger, more bonded communities that are reflective of their history and past experiences.
Accountable:
Making America As Good As it's Promise|
Accountable provides real-life examples of how crucial issues -- including health care, education, the economy, unequal justice, and the environment -- manifest themselves in our communities. The book demonstrates the urgent need to hold politicians and ourselves responsible, because the stakes have never been higher. Accountable examines present-day conditions and the consequences for America. At its core, this book is a tool with which the community can evaluate the successes or failures of its political leaders and of itself. This insightful book acknowledges the mistakes of the past while offering hope and inspiration for a better future.
